Part of this policy insures materials which are part of the works but which have not yet been used.

Materials differ widely in value and vulnerability to theft. Generally speaking, low-value materials which have a high bulk and weight are unlikely to be a target for thieves.

Conversely, bathroom, kitchen and heating installations are all extremely attractive to thieves because they have a ready market, are relatively light and are of high value.

It is important within the works sequencing to make sure that these high-value materials are brought to site as late as possible and indeed, if you are able, as part of your specification to request that a contractor gets your alarm system up and running quickly. This can only serve to improve the situation.

The policy allows for the off-site storage of materials, which may be an option if delivery of high-value items cannot be adequately scheduled.
